PINHOLE DETECTOR for Foil Separator line

General characteristics






With the CSM20D configuration, consisting of a double receiver in a single assembly and two different miniaturized Laser transmitters, it is possible to install it directly inside a foil separating machine. The pinhole detector system has been designed so that it can be integrated into any new or already existing separating machine, irrespective on the machine's geometry. Thanks to the compact size of the transmitters and their position inside the machine, to prepare for run-inspection it is only necessary to move the receiver-assembly from its standby position to inspection position. These mechanical installation devices are custom-made by EDS in accordance with the layout and geometry of the particular Foil Separating machine.

The CSM20D is the flagship of the family of EDS Pinhole Detectors. With dedicated experience spanning more than twenty years, EDS can offer the most advances and technically sophisticated detection device on the market today.


Principal and unique characteristics are:

  • Very high beam collimation and capability to focus the light energy over a small area.
  • High immunity to external light sources which is largely prevented from reaching the photo detector because of system geometry.
  • Monochromatic light-emission as well as photo detectors with monochromatic filters permits increase of immunity to environmental noise. This effectively stops all radiated light of wavelength other than that of system generated light.
  • Very stable and easily controlled output radiation power.

Same technical solutions for the CSM10D but with different light source emitter on the transmitter. With its Light Emission Diodes the pinhole detector can detect holes up to 20 microns, three classes detection is a good compromise for quality on price.

As, for all other family products, the CSM10D and CSM20D systems are completely supported by CSM software to produce the quality control report.

Software informations

Accurate software information on the position and distribution of defects is provided in real time through monitor display by Rolling Map in Cross Distribution and Longitudinal Trend. Repetitive defects are reported on completely configurable, alarm windows.







Auto diagnostic system

System failures are detected by the auto diagnostics program. Through alarm bar, this shows: malfunction of any laser or led; encoder; diaphragm; amplifier boards or cards. The colour of icons change to red in case of problems and will appear an alarm window as an instant alert communication.



Off line test device

HDL off line test system designed to satisfy ISO 9000 testing and certification.

This test is designed to confirm the correct calibration of the inspection system under controlled test conditions across the full range of the application.

To run this test there must be no strip between the transmitter and receiver heads. This can be achieved by either removal the strip or by moving the inspection to an off-line position by local means - or by using the optionally supplied EDS Head Extraction Frame.

At the end of the test performed by calibrated and certificated holes, the system gives a comprehensive report of cell condition, with the complete test only taking about fifteen minutes.
